2020 BCJALL Season Cancelled

With the announcement by the Canadian Lacrosse Association regarding the cancellation of the 2020 Minto Cup, the BC Junior A Lacrosse League Board of Governors has made the unfortunate and regretful decision to cancel the 2020 season.

Initially, the BCJALL had planned to delay the beginning of the 2020 regular season, which was originally supposed to start in April. After careful consideration of the recommendations of guidelines of the BC Public Health Officer, the Ministry of Health and the BC Centre for Disease Control, we as a league feel that this is the most appropriate decision for the health and safety of our clubs and the greater lacrosse community.

“We had hoped we might be able to compete this year, but it became evident we wouldn’t be able to have a normal season,” said BCJALL President Karl Christiansen. “Although we had discussed alternative scheduling, we realized that the 50-person gathering order would not allow us to compete this year. In discussion with all the participants in the Minto Cup, we also realized we could not compete for a National Championship.”

The decision to cancel the season does not come lightly and comes only after all other options were exhausted.

“All of our clubs and athletes are affected by this decision, especially the players who would have been in their last year of Junior eligibility, as well as the Minto Cup, which is one of the hardest championships to win,” Christiansen said.

We are looking forward to 2021 and the return of Junior A Lacrosse in British Columbia and the 2021 Minto Cup competition.
