Timbermen open season with four games in eight days

It was a hectic opening eight days of the BCJALL season for the Nanaimo Junior A Timbermen.

There were four games, with the Tmen sporting a 1-3 record to open 2023.

Nanaimo started on the road in Langley with a rematch of their second round 2022 playoff series.

The Thunder took an 8-5 decision with Matt Boas leading the Timbermen in scoring with three assists.

Keegan Okino got the start in goal with a 39 save performance.

Nanaimo's home opener was against their island rivals from Victoria.

Once again Boas led the Tmen in scoring with a goal and two assists while Okino and Colby Bowman shared the goaltending duties.

The Timbermen picked up their first win of the season on Saturday afternoon with a 14-8 triumph over the Burnaby Lakers.

Riley Arsenault had a huge game with three goals and five assists while Luke Ory chipped in two goals and four assists.

Bowman recorded 41 saves for the victory in net.

The week concluded with a 10-8 loss on the road in Coquitlam.

Boas led the way with three goals and two assists and Arsenault scored once and added three helpers.

On the May long weekend the Timbermen have a pair of games.

Saturday the 20th they host the Port Coquitlam Saints at the Nanaimo Ice Centre at 3:30pm.  

They'll travel to Langley on Sunday to face the Thunder.

The Timbermen have made a roster addition as well.

Liam Quinn comes to the team after his Division 1 season at Saint Joseph's.

Quinn is a 6'7 237 pound defender who will help boster Nanaimo's back end.
