Tmen beat Lakers 8-7 in season opener
The Timbermen are out of the gate on a winning note after defeating the Burnaby Lakers 8-7 on Saturday.
Ryan Sheridan and Arthur Miller paced the attack with four points each while Andrew Bowman had three points, and Riley Arsenault scored two goals.
Justin Geddie was stingy in goal especially during a five minute power that became a full two minute five on three in the second period.
Nanaimo built up a 4-0 lead and led 6-1 after the first period and 7-3 at the second intermission break.
The Lakers made the game close with strong third period push that included a four goal run to end the game, but Geddie and a strong Tmen defence held firm in the game's final moments.
Nanaimo will now face the Victoria Shamrocks on Tuesday July 13th at Panorama Rec Centre before returning home on Saturday July 17 to take on the Port Coquitlam Saints at 4pm at the Nanaimo Ice Centre.
TMEN NOTES:
Ryan Sheridan recorded four points in just over 20 minutes of action but was assessed a match penalty that ended his opening game early. The Timbermen await final word on supplemental discipline from the incident, with the hope that Sheridan won't miss any further action.
Mason McAdams is the new Timbermen captain. The veteran defender took over the role from the graduated Will Johansen.
Tickets for Nanaimo's next game will be available on a first come first serve basis with the doors at the Nanaimo Ice Centre opening at 3:15pm on July 17. There is a 200 person capacity for all home dates.
All Nanaimo home games will be available on pay-per-view webcast through www.playfullscreen.com.
